Dedicated to the memory of Eduino Costa

Eduino, my amazing grandfather was a, in my eyes heroic man. He and my grandmother both left everything they knew in Acores, to come to the U.S. to give thier six young children a better life.

Years later, they also both raised myself, and my cousins, and they truly were the set of second parents not many are blessed to have growing up.

My grandfather was always a healthy man, he would walk everywhere as he did not drive. I remember, he would make an amazing kale soup that we all loved so much. He would put aside a small pot of it for me and walk to my house -a good walk away- just to make sure I got some.

However, dispite being healthy for so much of his life, my grandfather contracted Shingles in summer 2008. He recoverd, but had however said he never felt the same since. Finally, in late March he began not feeling well, and had a stroke.

It was found he had Pancreatic Cancer. After the stroke, he was not much the same. He didnt always remember us, however at times he did. He ended up being brought to my Godmother, his daughters home, to be cared for, during his last week. He died, at home, with her, and the rest of his children and grandchildren nearby.

He will always be missed, and living on eternally in our hearts.

Please, do us all a favor, and educate yourself on Cancer. Prior to my grandfather contracting this form of Cancer, I had no idea of Pancreatic Cancer's existence.
The fatality rate is 99.99%.
His was found at stage 5, perhaps something could have been seen sooner? We wont ever know now, but maybe if YOU act today, you could help yourself and your loved ones tomorrow.
